Brand Highlight: Milani Favorites

Brand Highlight: Milani Favorites

Of all the drugstore makeup brands, or at least the ones available in my area, Milani is one of my favorites. I don’t think I could declare any one brand “the best” or my absolute all-time favorite, but every brand has certain things that they do best. While Maybelline and L’Oreal (which actually owns Maybelline, among others) may have the market cornered as far as mascara goes, Milani has some particularly awesome products as well.

My MVP’s: Milani Color Statement Lipsticks, Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadow, and the Baked Powder Blushes.

Milani lipsticks (from left): Black Cherry, Naturally Chic, Flirty Fuchsia, Dulce Caramelo, Pretty Natural, Nude Crème.

I wish I owned every shade in the Color Statement lipsticks, but the six shades I do own are gorgeous! I own several of their nudes, two of which, Naturally Chic and Nude Crème, are cream finishes, and one, Dulce Caramelo, is a pearl finish. The two pink shades I have are Flirty Fuchsia, a vinyl finish, and Pretty Natural, another cream finish and one of my absolute favorites! The only other color I have is Black Cherry, a cream finish shade that is an almost-black wine color. All of these shades, with the exception of Black Cherry, go on fully opaque from the bullet. Black Cherry can get a little patchy, which is normal in such dark colors, but that can easily be remedied with a lip brush once applied. None of the colors are exceptionally drying, but nor are they overly moisturizing; they seem to have found a beautiful place right in the middle. And while they aren’t long-wear formulas, they last on the lips several hours and once worn away leave the lips with a lovely stain. All-around winners in my book!

Milani Bella Eyes shadows (clockwise from top): Bella Sand, Bella Espresso, Bella Caffe, and (not pictured) Bella Black.

Then we come to the newest addition to the Milani line: the Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadows. The entire collection consists of 30 glorious colors, of which, sadly, I only have four. Those four shadows, however, are heavenly. At only $3.99 a piece, they compare to shadows of supposed “higher quality” that cost much more. I have even heard them compared to Mac shadows. I know. Insanity, right? Nope. They’re just that good. Soft, blendable, and pigmented. And they come in three finishes: satin matte, shimmer, and metallic. What more could you want? (Other than all of them)

Milani Baked Blushes (clockwise from top): Rose D’Oro, Luminoso, and Dolce Pink.

And last, but certainly not least, we come to the Baked Powder Blushes. Now, I only own three shades, because, well if you’ve seen my picture, you’ll know how fair I am, and some of the shades just don’t look that great on me. Which I find to actually be a good thing. Know why? Because that means more people with varying skin tones can find something to suit them. And that, my friends, is always a good thing at the drugstore. The beautiful, pigmented shades that I own are Luminoso, Dolce Pink, and Rose D’Oro. Each of the shades in the baked blush line vary in degrees of shimmer, from none at all (there are two matte shades), to some shimmer (Luminoso and Rose D’Oro), to “damn that’s a lot of shimmer” (Dolce Pink). In any case, there’s something for everyone!

You know, I’m pretty sure I could prattle on about makeup and the Milani brand all night, but A. y’all would eventually tell me to shut up, and B. my hands are getting tired, so I’ll just leave off here until next time. Good night y’all!
